FIVE Leicestershire men have been charged in connection with city centre violence ahead of a Leicester City FA football match.
Nottinghamshire Police arrested four men during a series of dawn raids in Leicestershire last month over violent disorder outside the Fat Cat bar in Chapel Bar, Nottingham.
The incident happened shortly after 1.45pm on February 6 – ahead of the Nottingham Forest versus Leicester City FA Cup fourth round tie played at the City Ground.
Officers swiftly attended after it was reported a group of Leicester City fans threw chairs and a table at the bar’s windows, causing damage, with members of the public in fear for their safety.
Following detailed police enquiries to identify suspects involved, including trawling through CCTV footage and social media, a number of warrants were executed at addresses in Leicestershire – resulting in four arrests.
A fifth suspect was arrested last Monday (March 14).
Five men have subsequently been charged with violent disorder. They are:
?Tyrone Smith, aged 37, of Central Road, Leicester
?Craig Jones, aged 23, of Arden Avenue, Leicester
?Przemyslaw Danik, aged 41, of Rutland Street, Leicester
?Neil Munden, aged 53, of Winforde Crescent, Leicester
?Craig Flint, aged 40, of Silver Street, Whitwick, Leicestershire
Munden has been bailed to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on April 7.
The other four men are currently on conditional bail and are next due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on April 4.
Detective Sergeant Jon Kerry, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “While the majority of people who attended the match were genuine supporters, were well behaved and had an enjoyable time, unfortunately there were a small number who were intent on causing harm. This will not be tolerated in our city.
“I am pleased we have now charged five people in connection with this disorder. This is a result of hard work and dedication across a number of departments who have worked together and had to gather evidence and analyse hours of CCTV and mobile phone footage.
“The investigation is very much ongoing and as our enquiries continue we will maximise every opportunity to catch all those believed to be involved in this appalling violence and bring them before the court.
“I would encourage them to do the right thing and hand themselves in as soon as possible.”
