City road closures in place this weekend due to Leicester 10k

Motorists are being warned of possible traffic disruption this weekend due to a major sporting event’s return to the city.

Thousands of runners will be heading to the city on Sunday (3 March) to take part in the Leicester 10k race.

The event will start and finish at Jubilee Square, with a route heading from the city centre to Victoria Park, through the University of Leicester and back towards the city centre via New Walk and Leicester Cathedral.

To ensure the safety of runners and spectators, there will be a series of rolling road closures and restrictions while the race is underway.

Road closures will begin at 5am around Jubilee Square and St Nicholas Place. The rest of the closures on route will come into effect from 8am until around 11.30am, when all the runners have passed.

Roads affected include Waterloo Way, London Road, Belvoir Street, Bishop Street, De Montfort Street, Friars Lane, Gallowtree Gate, Granby Street, Granville Road, Grey Friars, High Street, Horsefair Street, Market Place and Market Place South, New Street, Peacock Lane, Regent Street, Rutland Street, University Road, Victoria Park Road and Welford Road.

The Leicester 10k race is being organised by Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All.

Runners can choose to run for a charity close to their heart or get involved with one of the event’s official partner charities – the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, Leicester Tigers Foundation, LAMP (Leicester Action for Mental Health) and Leicester City in the Community.
