Martyn Gidley, who attended Loughborough Grammar School himself 40 years ago is now a PE Teacher, and cricket coach for girls and boys across the Loughborough Schools Foundation.

And it’s fair to say that Martyn is no stranger to professional cricket, having played professionally for Leicestershire County Cricket Club, and also for Free State and Griqualand West in South African provincial cricket. He was part of the England Over 50s team that won the World Cup last year, and recently he captained the England side in their match against Ireland last month, in which England won by nine wickets.

Mr Gidley said: “It’s such an honour to be picked to play and represent the country; I’m really looking forward to it. Loughborough Grammar School has been really supportive in enabling this opportunity, and I’ve had lots of support from the boys and staff, who no doubt will be watching!”
