A team of presenters from BBC Radio Leicester will be swapping the studios for swimming pools next month, as they take on a 24 miles swim for ‘Children in Need’.
Swim teams at BBC radio stations across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will attempt to swim 24 miles each – adding up to one thousand miles in total. That’s 64,000 lengths of a 25m pool!

The BBC Leicester swim team is made up of of Breakfast presenter Ady Dayman, Daytime presenter and ‘Brown Gal Can’t Swim’ host Summaya Mughal, Community reporter Kevin Ncube, outdoor swim enthusiast Helen McCarthy and Leicester City Commentator Owynn Palmer-Atkin.

They will be taking to pools across Leicestershire to complete the task between November 4 and 8.
Each member will swim 24 miles, which is the equivilent of swimming from Whitwick to Lutterworth.
Speaking about the task ahead, Breakfast presenter Ady Dayman, said: “I am absolutely honoured to be asked to be part of the Children In Need 1000 Mile Swim Challenge. It’s such a great cause and I’m buzzing to get stuck in. It’s going to be a real tough challenge but I’ll give it all I’ve got and I know I’ll get there with all the support around me.”

Children in Need is the BBC’s UK charity for disadvantaged children and young people in the UK. Between 1980 and 2023, it has raised over £1 billion for them.
