Leicester’s New Skatepark Takes Shape at St Margaret’s Pastures

A brand-new skatepark is taking shape at St Margaret’s Pastures in Leicester, and it’s set to open to the public this July.

Designed by UK skatepark specialists Maverick Industries, the new facility will be free to use and packed with features for skaters, BMXers, and scooter riders of all levels. The design includes flat bank ramps, grind rails, ledges, a stair set, a wheelie (or “manny”) pad, and a full-length quarter pipe. A bold, colourful surface design will give the space its own unique character.

Before finalising the design, Maverick ran an online survey to gather input from the local skate scene—more than 570 people responded, making it their biggest community consultation to date. From beginners to seasoned riders, the feedback helped shape a park that truly reflects what Leicester’s skating community wants.

“There’s been a lot of excitement around this project,” said Sam Reynolds, director at Maverick. “We’ve worked closely with local skaters, BMX and scooter riders to make sure the final design is something they can be proud of. We’re stoked to see it come to life.”

The skatepark is being built on open space next to Leicester Hockey Club’s Olympic-standard pitch, just a short distance from the city centre. It’ll be easy to reach by foot, bike, or board, and is close to parking and toilets.

Once completed, it’s expected to become a go-to destination for anyone looking to skate, ride, or just hang out in a dynamic and inclusive outdoor space.

City Mayor Peter Soulsby leader of Leicester City Council, which is leading the project said: “The new skatepark is now taking shape and it will be fantastic to see it complete and in use this summer.

“St Margaret’s Pastures is already home to several well-used sports pitches and facilities and it made good sense to use a vacant part of the site to expand the range of outdoor activities on offer.

“Maverick are experts in their field and the design they have developed for this new skatepark is very impressive. They’ve listened very carefully to what skaters and other enthusiasts want from a new facility.”

The city council approved funding of £375,000 for the scheme in 2022, under cash set aside for people and neighbourhoods policy provision.
