Unleash Your Inner Gladiator on a Roman-Themed Bike Ride Through Leicester

Cyclists are invited to channel their inner Roman gladiator by donning tunics and battle armour for a unique themed bike ride through Leicester, taking place on Saturday (26 April).

The free event is part of the Old Town Festival, a celebration that honors both St George’s Day and Leicester’s rich Roman history.

In the lead-up to the event, a free creative workshop will be hosted at the community hub in the Haymarket Shopping Centre on Friday, 25 April. There, participants can learn how to give their bike helmets a centurion-style makeover.

The family-friendly ride is designed for all ages and abilities, kicking off at 12pm from Leicester Cathedral. Cyclists will follow a scenic one-mile loop through the city centre.

Janet Hudson, transport development officer at Leicester City Council, said:
“Everyone’s invited to join our colourful, energetic bike parade as we bring the Old Town Festival to life.

“Our rickshaws will be transformed into Roman chariots, and we can’t wait to see how people embrace the Roman theme—whether it’s through their bikes or costumes.

“Costumes are optional, but fun is guaranteed. Come along for a legendary cycling adventure through the heart of the festival’s free activities!”
