A new CCTV camera will soon be in operation on a busy Leicester road to crack down on drivers who illegally park at a bus stop.
The enforcement will take place at the bus stop clearway on Evington Road, near its junction with Kedlestone Road—a spot frequently misused by motorists. Illegal parking at the site causes congestion and delays bus services along this busy route.

From today (Tuesday 27 May), the city council will introduce camera enforcement, along with updated road markings and signage. During the first two weeks, motorists caught parking in the bus stop clearway will receive warning notices only.
Full enforcement begins on Tuesday 10 June, when offending drivers will start receiving £70 penalty charge notices, reduced to £35 if paid within 21 days.
The project, which includes new signs and lines, is costing around £50,000 and is funded through the council’s transport improvement capital budget.
Councillor Geoff Whittle, Assistant City Mayor for Environment and Transport, said:
“People need to know they can rely on buses to run on time. Keeping bus stops and clearways free of parked vehicles is vital to making that happen.
“Illegally parked cars at this busy bus stop not only cause traffic delays but also endanger passengers as they get on and off buses.
“Our experience from other areas in the city shows that camera enforcement is an effective solution. That’s why we’re introducing a two-week warning period to raise awareness before issuing fines.”
Once active, the camera will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
A bus stop clearway is a designated section of road where vehicles are prohibited from stopping at any time. Camera enforcement of these rules is permitted under the Traffic Management Act 2004.
