A new independent veterinary practice has been opened at the RSPCA Woodside Rehoming Centre in Leicester – with the profits being used to help rescue animals in their care.
The new independent commercial vet practice called Bella & Barney – is based at the rehoming centre in Scudamore Road and is in addition to their vet suite which currently helps RSPCA rescue animals.

However, unlike the vet suite – the new practice is solely for the general public – and will offer a range of services including routine health checks and vaccinations, dental care and surgery, neutering, in-house lab tests and welfare clinics.
The grand opening was held on May 27 and was attended by the Lord Mayor of Leicester Teresa Aldred, consort Maggie Corley and High Sheriff Mr Stephen Bryan along with local dignitaries and supporters.
The practice will allow local residents to register and use the new veterinary facilities, which in turn will support the invaluable rehabilitation work at the centre.
The RSPCA Leicestershire, Peterborough & Rutland Branch, which runs RSPCA Woodside, hopes to expand their services beyond animal adoptions and introduce more people in the community to the incredible work happening at Woodside.
The practice, which can treat cats, dogs, and small pets ( rabbits and guinea pigs) was named after two of Woodside’s former rescues – Bella the kitten and Barney the dog.

Emma Peake, CEO for the branch, said: “What makes Barney & Bella truly special is the mission behind our work. Our profit goes to RSPCA Woodside enabling us to care for abandoned, mistreated, and homeless animals in our community.
“Every time someone visits Barney & Bella, the profits go back to RSPCA Woodside that means vet care, shelter, food, and love for cats and dogs who haven’t yet found their forever homes.
“Our rehoming centre and vet suite enables us to help hundreds of animals every year. For example, just last year alone we rehomed 170 dogs and 219 cats – but as well as this we neutered 146 dogs and 250 cats, and microchipped 100 dogs and 288 cats.
“We are so excited to be opening our new vet practice and we hope that local pet owners will register with us – and not only get the best care for their own animals but also know that they are helping rescue animals as well.
“Whether it’s a puppy’s first jab, a dental procedure, or some much-needed support during more difficult times, we’re here to help pet owners every step of the way.
“Bella and Barney are both rescue pets cared for by our Woodside team and they proudly represent our new vet suite — a symbol of resilience and the unwavering commitment it takes to give animals a second chance.”
