Leicester’s Little Dessert Shop Wins First-Ever Just Eat Community Award

Leicester’s beloved Little Dessert Shop has been named the winner of Just Eat’s first-ever Community Award, a new national honour that celebrates restaurants making a meaningful impact beyond the kitchen.

Introduced as part of the Just Eat Restaurant Awards 2025, the Community Award shines a spotlight on independent food businesses that go the extra mile for their local areas — from food donations and charity partnerships to sustainability efforts and cultural inclusivity.

Selected from over 450 inspiring entries across the UK, and voted for by the public, Little Dessert Shop, stood out for its deep-rooted commitment to the Leicester community.

“For us, community isn’t a strategy — it’s second nature,” said Khushi Thakkar, Business Development Manager at Little Dessert Shop, which sits in Belgrave Gate.

“Whether it’s sharing food with local schools, supporting food drives, or celebrating cultural events with our customers, we see ourselves as part of the neighbourhood’s fabric.”

The shop regularly marks events such as Ramadan, Diwali, and Christmas with special menu offerings tailored to the diverse backgrounds of its customers. In 2024, it introduced a children’s menu after recognising the growing number of young visitors, creating a welcoming space for families and students alike.

In addition to its festive and inclusive atmosphere, the business has made sustainability a priority by donating surplus food locally and exclusively using eco-friendly packaging. The team also actively supports community initiatives, student organisations, and healthcare projects. Their recent fundraising efforts have benefited causes such as Marie Curie, the University of Leicester’s Cardiovascular Sciences department, and the Leicester Asian Business Association.

“Food can do more than fill you up — it can bring people together and start conversations,” Thakkar added. “To be recognised by Just Eat for the role we play in our community is incredibly special. This win is not just for us — it’s for every person who walks through our doors.”

Leigh Phillipson, Independent Partner Director at Just Eat, praised the team’s work: “Little Dessert Shop is a brilliant example of how food businesses can be a force for good. Their passion and dedication to local culture embody what the Community Award is all about.”
