Leicester is celebrating Cycle to Work Day this Thursday (7 August), with a range of free activities to encourage commuters to hop on their bikes.
Cyclists from participating workplaces can join a guided ride into the city, led by bike buddies departing from the city’s three Park and Ride locations and heading to Town Hall Square.

From 8am to 10am, anyone cycling into the city centre can stop by Town Hall Square for a free fruit breakfast.
Later in the day, from 12pm to 2pm, Dr Bike will be on hand at Town Hall Square to carry out free minor bike repairs. Leicestershire Police will also be offering free bike security marking.
Over at the plaza outside Mattioli Woods’ Welford Road Stadium, Northside Bikes will be providing free maintenance from 10am to 2pm as part of Cycling UK’s Big Bike Revival.
Cyclists can also take part in a special Cycle to Work Day prize draw through the BetterPoints app, which rewards users for choosing active travel. Points can be redeemed for high street vouchers or donated to charity.
The day aims to highlight the benefits of cycling as a practical, cost-effective, and healthy commuting option.
Cllr Geoff Whittle, Assistant City Mayor for Environment and Transport, said:
“Leicester is a great city for cycling, with most destinations within a 30-minute ride of the centre. Cycle to Work Day is a fantastic chance to explore our growing cycle network and enjoy the health and wellbeing benefits that come with a bike commute.”
The event is supported by local employers including Hastings Direct, Leicester College, Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, and Leicester’s hospitals.
