Search Begins for Leicestershire’s Most Inspiring Young People as 2026 Awards Launch

The search is underway to find Leicestershire’s most inspiring young people, following the launch of the Lord-Lieutenant’s 2026 Awards celebrating exceptional achievements across the city and county.

The Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire, Mike Kapur OBE CStJ, is calling for nominations of young people aged 13 to 19 who have demonstrated outstanding courage, leadership, creativity or a strong commitment to helping others.

Family members, friends, teachers and community leaders are being encouraged to put forward young people who make a meaningful difference in their communities and whose efforts deserve public recognition.

There are four award categories: Young Person of Courage, Young Volunteer, Young Leader and Young Artist.

Speaking about the awards, Mr Kapur said: “This annual awards event is designed to celebrate the achievements of our exceptional young people across the city and county. It is an opportunity for us all to come together to recognise their individual talents and the outstanding contributions they make to their local communities. Please show your support by nominating the amazing young people you know today.”

Nominations can be submitted by schools, voluntary organisations, parents, carers, other young people or any individual. The awards are open to 13 to 19-year-olds who live in Leicester or Leicestershire, or who attend full-time education in the area.

The awards are sponsored by a range of local businesses and are supported by both Leicestershire County Council and Leicester City Council.

The closing date for nominations is 13 February 2026. Full details of the award categories and guidance on making a nomination can be found at www.leicestershire.gov.uk/llawards.
