Final Call to Nominate Inspiring Young People for Leicestershire Young Person of the Year Awards

People across Leicester and Leicestershire are being reminded that they have until 13 February 2026 to nominate an inspiring young person for the Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire’s Young Person of the Year Awards.

The annual awards celebrate the achievements of young people aged 13 to 19 from across the city and county, recognising those who have made outstanding contributions to their communities. Anyone can submit a nomination, and families, friends, teachers, youth workers, professionals and community leaders are all being encouraged to put forward young people they believe deserve recognition.

There are four award categories open for nominations: Young Person of Courage, Young Volunteer, Young Leader, and Young Artist.

Mike Kapur OBE CStJ said the awards provide an important opportunity to shine a light on the talent and resilience of young people locally.
“As Lord-Lieutenant, I am privileged to meet so many fantastic young people across the city and county,” he said. “But without your support and insightful nominations, these awards simply cannot take place.”

He added that the categories are designed to highlight the “bravery, creativity, strength of spirit and selflessness” shown by young people, and urged residents to help identify those whose efforts deserve recognition.

The scheme is open to all 13 to 19-year-olds who live in Leicester or Leicestershire, or who attend full-time education in the area. Nominations can be made by schools, parents or carers, fellow young people, or any individual or organisation.

All eligible nominations will be considered by a judging panel chaired by Sally Bowie, and including young people. The panel will shortlist three finalists in each category.

Each finalist will receive a framed certificate and a prize, while category winners will be announced at a special awards ceremony, where they will each receive a prize worth £500. One overall winner will also be named Lord-Lieutenant’s Young Person of the Year, receiving a special trophy.

Finalists and their parents or guardians will be invited to attend a red-carpet awards evening and dinner hosted by the Lord-Lieutenant.

The awards are supported by local businesses, as well as Leicestershire County Council and Leicester City Council.

The closing date for nominations is 13 February 2026. Further information and the online nomination form are available via the Lord-Lieutenant’s website.
