Thousands set to join Leicester’s Vaisakhi Nagar Kirtan parade

Thousands of people are expected to take part in Leicester’s annual Sikh Nagar Kirtan parade later this month.

The procession, which celebrates the Sikh festival of Vaisakhi, will take place on Sunday, 26 April, drawing large crowds from across the city and beyond.

The parade will begin at the Guru Nanak Gurdwara on Holy Bones at around 11.30am, before making its way through the city to the Guru Tegh Bahadur Gurdwara on East Park Road, where it is expected to arrive at approximately 3pm.

Organisers say the event will involve thousands of participants ??????ing between the two of Leicester’s most well-known Gurdwaras.

A number of rolling road closures will be in place for short periods along the route as the procession passes. Streets affected this year include Holy Bones and Great Central Street, Vaughan Way, St Nicholas Circle, St Nicholas Place, High Street, Clock Tower, Humberstone Gate, Charles Street, St George’s Way, Swain Street, Sparkenhoe Street, St Peter’s Road, East Park Road, Leicester Street and Rosebery Street.

Motorists are being advised to expect temporary delays, particularly in the city centre, while advance warning signs will be installed in the days leading up to the event.

Some bus services will also be diverted for short periods as the parade moves through Leicester.
