Leicestershire Launches £17m Crisis and Resilience Fund to Support Households in Financial Crisis

A new support scheme aimed at helping residents facing sudden financial hardship has been launched in Leicestershire, backed by £17 million in government funding.

The initiative, known as the Crisis and Resilience Fund, will run over the next three years and is being administered by Leicestershire County Council.

The fund is designed to provide emergency assistance for essential needs such as food and fuel, while also offering longer-term support to help households avoid falling back into crisis. This includes access to debt advice and guidance on managing living costs.

Council leader Dan Harrison said the scheme aims to respond both to immediate financial pressures and to underlying issues affecting vulnerable residents. He noted that many households are already under strain, and unexpected costs can push people into more serious difficulty.

The programme forms part of a wider effort to address financial insecurity and its impact on health and wellbeing, with local authorities continuing to play a key role in distributing government support.

An update on the scheme is due to be presented to the council’s cabinet at a meeting scheduled for 28 April.
