STREETS in residential areas across Leicester are due to benefit from almost quarter of a million pounds worth of resurfacing and repair work over the coming weeks.
The programme of surface repairs will include seven areas across the city, replacing or repairing more than 6,500 square metres of carriageway.
Temporary road closures will be in place while the work is done at each site, with local diversions in place.
Shaftesbury Avenue in Belgrave will be resurfaced on March 7 and 8 at a cost of around £35k, before work moves to Springfield Road in Clarendon Park on March 9 and 10. That scheme will cost £37k.
On March 11, £25k worth of work will be carried out at Stenson Road, in the city’s Western ward.
The junction of Green Lane Road and Prospect Road in North Evington will undergo repair work on Sunday, March 13, at a cost of £30k, while on March 14 and 15, Burfield Street in Belgrave ward will be repaired at a cost of £38k.
Scudamore Road in the city’s Western ward will undergo works on March 16 and 17. Carriageway works will be done at night, while repairs to pavements will be done during the day. In all the scheme will cost £40k.
The final scheme for this programme of work will take place at the junction of Wicklow Drive and Ambassador Road on March 20, involving £40k worth of repairs.
The works are all funded by the city council’s Highway Maintenance Capital Budget.
Cllr Kirk Master, Leicester’s assistant city mayor for neighbourhoods, said: “These works need to be carried out to ensure roads in communities across the city remain in good condition and can cope with modern traffic demands.
“In some cases the work involves full resurfacing, while in others smaller sections of repairs are all that is needed.
“There will be temporary road closures while the work is being done, but local diversions will be in place.”
