Festival of Light celebrations are taking place at Fosse Park, with a number of activities taking place throughout the day.
Celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains, Diwala is a hugely anticipated event in Leicester.
To mark the festival, a number of activities will take place at Fosse Park on November 1, between 11am and 3pm.
Here’s a list of what’s going on:
- Bollyqueer, the LGBTQIA+ affirming Bollywood dance organisation is performing outside New Look.This will be founder, Vinay’s, first time performing in hometown, Leicester. Look familiar? Bollyqueer was featured in the BBC Three documentary ‘Bend it like Bollywood’. The performances are influenced by the colour, magic and glamour of Bollywood, with all dancers encouraged to dance in a way their heart and body feels their happiest.Read more, here: https://bollyqueer.com/
- The Bollywood Belles will be dazzling visitors with dance performances outside New Look.During regular timeslots, the award-winning group is set to amaze onlookers with unique and original performances, which celebrate the beauty of Bollywood.Read more, here: https://www.bollywoodbelles.com/
- Indian Stiltwalkers are set to roam West Lanes during the day, to give visitors the perfect chance to grab a selfie (if you can reach)!
- DJ Rohan will be filling Food Central with a modern fusion of Eastern and Western beats. Grab a bite to eat, enjoy the ambience, and feel free to bust a move
- The Floral Bench outside Volpo Lounge has been given a Diwali makeover, and is the perfect backdrop to add a pop of colour to your social feed
