Fosse Park Celebrates Pride with Pavement Poetry

Leicester’s Fosse Park is joining the city-wide celebration of Leicester Pride this weekend, with a vibrant showcase of inclusive, uplifting poetry at the destination.

The project – ‘Pride Pavement Poetry’ is taking place in partnership with Birmingham-based artist Rachel Scott-Rushfirth and the inspiring words of the poetry project, whose mission is to heal the world through the power of poetry.

On Saturday (August 30), Fosse Park is inviting visitors to experience a unique trail of meaningful verses that ‘celebrate kindness, individuality, and self-expression.’

Poetry such as “Always be kind to everyone you meet and remember that flowers bloom when the sun shines” and “Never hide the real you. It is not your responsibility to open eyes that are blind to change” can be discovered at key locations throughout the destination, including Marks and Spencer, Nick Scalli, New Look, and Primark.

Chaz Kotecha, Marketing Manager, said: “This creative initiative is part of Fosse Park’s commitment to supporting Leicester Pride and fostering a welcoming, inclusive environment for all.

Visitors are encouraged to take photos of the poetry and share their favourites on social media, tagging @fossepark and using the hashtag #PridePavementPoetry, to help spread the celebration far and wide.”

Rachel Scott-Rushfirth, Pride Pavement Poetry Artist, said: “I’m delighted to collaborate with Fosse Park on this campaign, especially as a frequent visitor who’s always admired the energy of the destination. My creations are colourful, impactful and designed to inspire – so it was a joy to bring poetry into this vibrant space.

I hope everyone who visits enjoys the work,  connects with the messages, and feels encouraged to share them as part of the wider celebrations of Leicester Pride.”

Leicester Pride is an annual LGBTQ+ celebration taking place this Saturday, August 30. The event features a colourful city-centre parade followed by a free-entry festival at Abbey Park.

The parade starts at noon from the Curve Theatre on Rutland Street. It will then proceed through the city centre before finishing at Abbey Park where the main festival will take place from 1-9pm.
