A series of fun activities are currently taking place at Leicester’s African Caribbean Centre to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, including a 1950s themed fancy dress competition.
Other activities taking place today (Saturday, June 4) at the centre in Maidstone Road, include cake decorating and a competition to design a Jubilee sneaker, as well as a special ‘Grease’ themed dance workshop.
Caribbean food is also on offer for party-goers who attend the event.
Joanne Alexander, one of the event organisers hailed it a “great success so far”, adding that all the weeks of hard work and preparation had “certainly paid off”.
“We didn’t realise that it was going to be so popular today. There’s so much going on in and around Leicester, so we thought that everyone would be spread quite thin, but we’ve had a lovely turn out. It’s been great”,” she said.
Commenting on the significance of the Platinum Jubilee, organiser Angela Parks added: “We’re never going to see this again, so it’s very special for us, and I’m really excited that we’ve been able to be here, see it through, and be a part of it.
“The kids are here feeling happy about their heritage and really proud, and that’s what it’s all about”, she added.
