A Leicester charity, which has raised over £175,000 since its inception is looking to add to that amount with its upcoming event.
The Pujara Charity Foundation is looking to raise more more funds for the many causes it supports, when it hosts its latest charity event on September 14.
The event, at Leicester’s Jungle Club, will feature live music, dinner and entertainment. A Bollywood band are flying in from India to perform at the event, and ‘Iron Man’ Manjit Singh will be showcasing his eye watering skills on stage by attempting to lift a person with his ears.
Hitesh Pujara revealed his excitement ahead of the event, which is the first his charity has hosted since Covid.
“Everyone will have good fun, we’ve got good food, good music and some great entertainment.
We’ve always had good support and we’ve already sold half of the tables,” he told the Leicester Times.
“Hopefully we can raise an amazing amount for this year’s charities. Our target is £8,000, but God willing, we can surpass that.”
This year’s chosen charities are ‘PASIC Cancer Support for Children and Young People’, BEC UK (Business Enterprise and Community Group), Aikyam UK and Rotary Club of Organ Donation UK.
Since it began in 2017, the Pujara Charity Foundation has supported over 20 different charities, raising over £175,000.
The charity’s motto is ‘charity means charity.’
It was set up following the death of Hitesh’s uncle, who left behind a substantial amount in his will. This was used to purchase a property, which was converted into a restaurant in Leicester.
“The rental income achieved from this goes 100 per cent to charity,” Hitesh explained.
“We live in the UK and have done since 1971 so I believe that we should give locally. We’ve taken from the country so we need to give back and to support.
“What we need to do is educate – not only the people that are coming to the events but our families, our children who hopefully will carry on the charity in the long run. We have to give – it is so important,” he added.
“There are a lot of people, especially since Covid with mental health issues – all communities and they need a lot of help and support. The help and support they need is very expensive. We know that. We’ve also supported things like Diabetes, organ donation and cancer charities. There’s a lot of issues that affect us and we want to play our part…”
Around 400 guests are expected to attend September’s event, including the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress.
It is to be hosted by Kash Kumar from Sabras Radio.
A raffle is expected to raise £1,500 on the night with a range of ‘fantastic’ prizes on offer including restaurant vouchers.
“The Pujara family’s very well established in Leicester and we have support from a lot of local businesses,” said Hitesh.
“We’d like to say a big thank you for everyone who’s helped us put on this event and those who plan to attend. We look forward to seeing you all!”
The dress code for the event is smart evening. Prices are £18 single entry £35 for couples and £120 for a table of 8.
