A Leicester store has announced its closure ‘with a heavy heart’ after trading in the city for over 50 years.
Paper Tiger – a party supply and rental shop which sits on Cank Street, has delivered the news to customers, citing a ‘really tough’ few years of trading.
“We remained strong and independent throughout, however the last few years has been a really tough time for us.
“We have worked incredibly hard because this is out love and passion. Alas we have to set down now,” they said via a poster in their front window.
“It has been with great joy and honour to have served you all these years, celebrating and creating memories through all your celebrations and milestones,” they added.
“Together we have created unforgettable experiences, sharing stories and letting us be a part of your joyous moments. We have laughed, cried and celebrated. Thank you, thank you.”
Paper Tiger first opened its doors to the public back in 1970.
Its closure will come as a blow to many who visited the shop, which sold a range of fancy dress outfits and party decorations.
Commenting on social media, one person called the closure “another victim of the Amazon age.”
“Could have seen this on the card years ago,” added another. “The town centre is all about the big brands now, not iconic Leicester shops we grew up with.”
“It’s so sad.. It’s impossible to keep a small business going now days.”
