Leicester Mela Festival Returns to Abbey Park for Two-Day Celebration This August

This August, Leicester’s Abbey Park will once again host the vibrant Leicester Mela Festival — a two-day celebration of South Asian arts, culture, music, food, and fashion.

The event is set to take place on Saturday, August 16, and Sunday, August 17.

Organised by 2Funky Arts, the festival promises “an immersive cultural experience for attendees of all ages,” celebrating the richness of South Asian heritage. Attracting tens of thousands of visitors each year, the Mela has become a highlight on the city’s summer calendar.

This year’s main stage will showcase an exciting lineup of local, UK, and international talent, featuring music, dance, and live entertainment designed to engage and inspire audiences.

The Mela Bazaar will transform into a shopper’s paradise, with dozens of stalls offering everything from handcrafted jewellery and colourful clothing to delicious street food and sweet treats. There will also be a dedicated Kids’ Village, complete with arts and crafts, family-friendly activities, and funfair rides provided by Billy Bates & Sons.

Last year’s event welcomed around 25,000 visitors, featured more than 50 stalls, and hosted over 30 performers. Organisers are now inviting people to get involved. They’re looking for volunteers aged 18+, as well as performers, DJs, food vendors, stallholders, and sponsors for this year’s festival, which runs from 12pm to 7pm each day.
