Leicester will come together tomorrow, Monday 11 November, to mark Armistice Day with a series of remembrance services and two-minute silences held across the city and county.
At 11am, Leicester Market will observe its traditional two-minute silence, when shoppers and traders will join the Lord Mayor of Leicester, Councillor Teresa Aldred, in Green Dragon Square to honour those who gave their lives in conflict.

Earlier in the morning, Leicester Cathedral will hold a Service of Remembrance at 10.45am. The service will include the playing of The Last Post before the silence, followed by the bugle call of Reveille to bring the act of remembrance to a close. The ceremony will pay tribute to the sacrifices made by military personnel and civilians during times of war.
A further service will take place at County Hall in Glenfield, where Leicestershire County Council will hold a short Armistice Day ceremony at the Stand Easy memorial from 10.55am. The event will feature the laying of wreaths and the national two-minute silence at 11am.
Among those attending will be the Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire, Mike Kapur OBE CStJ, and County Council Chairman, Councillor Paul Harrison, alongside representatives from the Royal British Legion, serving members of the armed forces, cadets, and pupils from The Hall Primary School in Glenfield. The service will be led by Dr Edward Bampton.
Councillor Harrison said it was “a great honour” to lead this year’s Armistice service.
“As we gather in remembrance, we pay tribute to those who gave their lives for the freedoms we enjoy today,” he said. “Their courage and commitment continue to inspire us to uphold the values they fought for. I warmly encourage all who are able to join me in commemorating Armistice and honouring their legacy.”
All residents are invited to pause at 11am—whether at a service, in their workplace, or at home—to observe the two-minute silence and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service of their country.
