Record-Breaking Turnout for Run Leicester Festival 2025

The Run Leicester Festival, which took place on Sunday, (26th October), has officially been declared the biggest in the event’s history, as organisers confirmed that an impressive 5,000 runners took part across both the 10K and Half Marathon distances.

The annual festival, now firmly established as a highlight of Leicester’s sporting calendar, saw runners of all abilities — from seasoned athletes to first-time participants — take to the city’s streets. The atmosphere was electric as crowds of spectators lined the route, cheering participants on through Leicester’s iconic landmarks and vibrant neighbourhoods.

Race Director Andrew Ward expressed his delight at the festival’s growing popularity: “We’re thrilled to see the Run Leicester Festival becoming a true annual tradition. Leicester’s vibrant running community has really embraced the event, and it’s wonderful to watch it continue to grow and thrive year after year.”

Participation numbers have climbed steadily in recent years — last year’s total of 4,100 runners has now been comfortably surpassed. Organisers noted a particularly encouraging trend this year, with a surge in entries from younger participants in their 20s and 30s, helping to secure the future of the event for years to come.

“We’ve seen a real rise in runners in their 20s and 30s, which is fantastic for the future of this well-loved race,” added Andrew Ward. “It shows that running continues to be an accessible and inspiring way for people to stay active, connect, and support great causes.”

The event’s impact reaches far beyond the running community. As a not-for-profit event, the Run Leicester Festival donates all proceeds to LOROS Hospice, a local charity providing care and support to terminally ill patients and their families across Leicestershire and Rutland.

This year’s record-breaking turnout means a record-breaking donation, with organisers estimating that at least £110,000 will go to LOROS — a significant boost at a crucial time.

Earlier this year, the hospice announced that ongoing funding challenges could lead to reductions in some services. The success of this year’s race will therefore provide vital financial relief and reassurance for patients and their families.

Camilla Barrow, Interim CEO at LOROS Hospice, said: “We’re delighted that Run Leicester is going from strength to strength. Like the festival, LOROS is an integral part of the local community. It’s wonderful that our patients and families can directly benefit from the event’s success. We’re so grateful to every runner, volunteer, and supporter who made it possible.”

With the city’s enthusiasm for running showing no signs of slowing down, organisers have already begun planning for next year. The date for Run Leicester 2026 will be announced in the coming weeks, with expectations high for another record-breaking celebration of community spirit, fitness, and fundraising.
