The thieves stole cash – and the branch will also need to pay for repairs to the shop caused by the break in.
A spokesperson for the branch said: “As a self-funded charity, we now face the financial burden of repairing any damage and increasing our security measures to prevent future incidents.
“Every penny we raise goes directly towards the care and welfare of the animals who need us most and are looked after at our Woodside Animal Centre.
“Incidents like this divert vital funds away from our rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming work.
“We are incredibly grateful for the continued support of our community and ask anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious to contact the police.”
Mary Lockhart, Head of Commercial Trading, added: “We are deeply distressed by this incident. I want to express my sincere gratitude to the shop management team for responding to the situation with professionalism and efficiency.
“The income generated by our shop plays a vital role in funding the care and rehabilitation of the animals who depend on us. It is deeply disheartening—and unacceptable—that someone would deliberately take resources intended for such an important cause.”
Anyone with information in regards to the break in is urged to call Leicestershire Police quoting incident 25000541787.
The shop is back open and anyone wishing to support the charity can make a donation via their website or in person at any of the branch charity shops.
