Leicester is set to welcome thousands of Sikhs to its streets later this month for a major religious procession.
The event, known as Nagar Kirtan, will take place on Sunday, 16 November, and traditionally attracts large numbers of participants walking between two of the city’s prominent Sikh temples, or Gurdwaras.

The procession will begin at Guru Tegh Bahadur Gurdwara on East Park Road at around 11.30am, making its way across the city to arrive at Guru Nanak Gurdwara, Holy Bones, at approximately 2.30pm.
The route will pass through East Park Road, St Peter’s Road, Sparkenhoe Street, Swain Street, St George’s Way, Charles Street, Humberstone Gate, Clock Tower, East Gates, High Street, St Nicholas Place, and St Nicholas Circle, concluding at Holy Bones.
Rolling road closures will be in place along the route to ensure the safety of participants. Certain bus services will also be temporarily diverted, while parking restrictions will affect streets near East Park Road—including parts of Leicester Street, Rosebery Street, and Nottingham Street—as well as areas around Holy Bones, Welles Street, and part of Great Central Street.
The city council has confirmed that information signs will be displayed on main routes into the city, and the Area Traffic Control team will provide regular traffic and travel updates throughout the day.
Nagar Kirtan remains one of the key events in Leicester’s Sikh community calendar, drawing significant crowds each year to celebrate and observe the faith.
