Tributes Paid to Neville Foulger – the ‘Voice of Leicester’

Neville Foulger, the former BBC Radio Leicester commentator, has passed away at the age of 85 after a distinguished career bringing football commentary to fans.

Known as the “voice of Leicester,” Foulger provided commentary on Leicester City matches from the late 1990s until his retirement in 2004. Despite retiring from full-time broadcasting, he continued to work behind the mic for several years, driven by his deep passion for the sport.

In addition to his broadcasting work, Foulger authored several books on Coventry City and Leicester City, further cementing his legacy in the football world. With a career spanning over 50 years, he was highly regarded in the world of sports journalism and will be deeply missed by fans across the country.

Foulger leaves behind his wife Fran, children David and Anne, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He lived in Barrow upon Soar.

Leicester City’s official X account paid tribute to him, stating: “We are all saddened to hear of the passing of much-loved journalist Neville Foulger. Covering countless City games, Nev commentated on some of the Club’s greatest moments across several decades. Known by many generations as the voice of Leicester City, he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.”

BBC Radio Leicester Sport also shared the sad news: “Some sad news this afternoon. Former BBC Radio Leicester commentator Neville Foulger has passed away at the age of 85. He was the voice of Leicester City during one of its golden eras under Martin O’Neill in the 1990s. Our love goes to his family. Thanks for the memories, Nev.”

While Foulger is best known for his coverage of Leicester City, his career also saw him work in Nottingham, Birmingham, and Coventry, where he built a strong following.
