Syston’s beloved knitting Banxy has struck once again by creating a piece to promote a monthly ‘Menopause Cafe’, which takes place in the village.
The crafty villager, who prefers to remain anonymous, has created the piece to mark the spot where the meetings take place, at Syston’s Pharmacie Arms.
Syston Knitting Banxy (SKB), is renowned for her striking creations, which usually adorn postboxes in the village. Some of her woolly wonders have even gone viral, with Hollywood actor Stephen Graham even giving a thumbs up to his knitted tribute when it appeared in Ibstock last year.
Her latest offering has been well-received by the people of Syston, with one resident calling it a “wonderful gesture.”
As for the Menopause Cafe, the resident added: “It’s lovely for our Community that are suffering to be given all the help both from you and the group.”
“Brilliant to promote menopause! Been their done that & come out the other side!” added another.
The Menopause Cafe was set up by Tracey Pollard, who says that they sessions are going from “strength to strength,” since they were introduced in April.
“We’re averaging around 20+ people a month, quite a few regulars now and a few new people every month,” she told the Leicester Times.
“I’ve also been contacted by another lady to help set one up in their village too.
“It’s such a great safe space for us all and we talk, laugh, we rant, moan and simply just enjoy knowing that we’re not on our own,” she said of the sessions themselves.
Tracy approached SKB to create a piece to help promote the group. However she didn’t expect it to appear so soon, she revealed.
“I’d spoken to Banxy a while ago but she was so busy I thought it would take longer, so it was a lovely surprise to see it this morning,” she said.
“I’m so happy with it. It depicts what we’re trying to do so brilliantly.”
The next meeting of the Syston Menopause Cafe, is happening on Wednesday, August 3, between 6.30-8pm.
