A Longstanding member of Leicestershire Search and Rescue, has been recognised in the New Years honours for his “extraordinary” services to the community.
Brian Jackson, BEM, has been a member of Leicestershire Search and Rescue for almost a decade.
He was awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM), for his commitment to the organisation, where he has the highest attendance rate of any member.
In addition to this he has worked with the Duke of Edinburgh award for over 30 years, supporting and empowering hundreds of younger people to gain and develop valuable life skills.
“I could think of no more a deserving individual to be the recipient of this amazing recognition, and am sure you will join me in congratulating him on his amazing award,” said a spokesman for Leicestershire Search and Rescue.
“During the Covid pandemic, in spite of his own wellbeing, he volunteered at the Leicester General Hospital vaccine hub from day one, marshalling thousands of people through the vaccine process, day after day, sometimes in freezing weather,” they went on to reveal.
“He is still supporting the vaccine program across Leicestershire, training more recently as a vaccinator some of the most vulnerable in our community.
“Thank you for all you do for our community Brian, many congratulations from the team.”
Leicestershire Police has also extended its congratulations to Mr Jackson for his “extraordinary commitment.”
“We would like to thank him for the countless hours dedicated to supporting us in the search and rescue for vulnerable and missing people,” said a spokesman.
