Have Your Say on Leicester’s Plans to Improve Walking and Cycling Routes

Leicester City Council is inviting residents to share their views on a new draft plan aimed at improving the city’s network of safe routes for walking, wheeling, and cycling.

Published today (20 August), the Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan outlines a long-term vision to create a safer, more accessible, and better-connected active travel network across Leicester.

The draft plan identifies proposed locations for new and upgraded routes, including 26 priority cycling routes and 74 walking routes. These improvements are subject to funding and have been designed with accessibility in mind—considering users of mobility aids such as wheelchairs, scooters, prams, and walking frames.

Residents are encouraged to give feedback on the proposals, suggest new routes, or comment on existing ones via an online survey.

Cllr Geoff Whittle, Assistant City Mayor for Environment and Transport, said: “It’s essential that we continue investing in infrastructure that makes walking, wheeling, and cycling the preferred way to travel for everyday journeys.

“This draft plan outlines our vision to expand Leicester’s growing network of safe, attractive routes from the city centre into local neighbourhoods. We want to hear what people think.”
