A 17-year-old student from Leicester has been named a UK Youth Ambassador for The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE), joining a select group of 31 young people helping to shape the future of the charity.
Josh Davis, a student at Beauchamp College, is currently working towards his Gold Award and will represent the voices of young people across the UK by speaking at events, engaging with MPs, and contributing to the charity’s direction.

An outdoor enthusiast, Josh completed his Bronze and Silver Awards at Manor High School. Through his DofE journey, he’s taken on volunteering with the Beavers, started running with his dad, and become a core member of his local parkrun team—recently completing his 200th run. He’s also developed skills in social media and graphic design.
“DofE has shown me the value of learning beyond the classroom,” Josh said. “It’s helped me realise my passion for engineering and given me vital life and career skills.”
Josh also completed IBM’s SkillsBuild course and spent his summer doing work experience at Unipart Manufacturing in Coventry, with plans to pursue a degree apprenticeship in engineering.
The Youth Ambassador programme, funded by The Gosling Foundation, empowers young people to influence the charity’s work. Ambassadors have previously spoken at political events, met decision-makers, and represented the UK internationally.
Ashley Williams, UK Youth Engagement Manager at DofE, praised Josh’s achievements: “We’re proud to see young people like Josh lead the way, especially at a time when access to youth opportunities is more vital than ever.”
In 2024-25, a record 572,802 young people took part in the DofE, contributing 5.2 million hours of volunteering—valued at over £33 million. The charity aims to reach 1.6 million new participants by 2026, with a focus on supporting disadvantaged communities and young people with additional needs.
