A much-loved community initiative that brought Christmas joy to more than 1,100 children in Hinckley last year has returned for another season of giving.
The Hinckley and Bosworth Christmas Toy and Food Appeal is once again calling for donations to support local families in need over the festive period. Launched in 2009, the appeal has grown year after year, helping thousands of children and families enjoy a brighter Christmas.

The project is a joint effort between Leicestershire County Council’s Family Help Service, the Salvation Army, the Hinckley Area Food Bank, Work Link, and Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, with support from numerous local organisations and residents.
Councillor Charles Pugsley, Lead Member for Children and Families, praised the ongoing community effort, saying:
“Although most of us think of Christmas as a happy time, it can be stressful for those going through financial difficulties. No family should be without support, especially during the festive period, and I know what a huge impact the Hinckley and Bosworth appeal makes for local families in need.
“I’d like to thank the partners, supporters, and generous members of the public who make it possible. Get involved this year by gifting brand-new toys or vouchers suitable for children up to the age of 16.”
Last year’s appeal was the biggest yet, with gifts delivered to more than 1,100 children and over £23,000 in food vouchers distributed to help families with the cost of Christmas meals.
For 2025, organisers are particularly encouraging donations suitable for older children, such as toiletry sets and gift vouchers. Collection bins have been placed across Hinckley, where donations can be dropped off until 28 November. After this date, gifts can be taken directly to the Hinckley Family Hub on Granville Road.
Businesses, churches, community groups, and charities interested in supporting the appeal can contact the team via email at HinckleyFamilyHubs@leics.gov.uk.
