Free Salsa Taster Session Invites Leicester’s Over-55s to Dance and Socialise

Leicester residents aged 55 and over are being invited to step onto the dancefloor for a fun, free Salsa taster session next month.

The one-hour class will take place at Age UK, Clarence House on Humberstone Drive, at 3.10pm on Tuesday, 3 February, with time afterwards to socialise and enjoy refreshments.

The session forms part of First Time for Everything, a community health and wellbeing programme run by Royal Voluntary Service. The initiative is supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery and aims to give people the chance to try something new for free, while encouraging social connection and gentle physical activity — particularly for those who may be older or less mobile.

Local dance instructor Ginnette Brookes, founder of GB Dance, will lead the session, introducing participants to the basics of Salsa through accessible, easy-to-follow steps. Attendees are advised to wear comfortable clothing and trainers or other suitable footwear. Light refreshments will be provided, though participants are encouraged to bring water to stay hydrated during the class.

Laura Chow, Head of Charities at People’s Postcode Lottery, said: “Being active, getting out and about and feeling part of the local community are important for health and wellbeing, no matter what our age, ability or circumstances. With generous support from players of People’s Postcode Lottery, First Time for Everything brings local people together to try something new, to meet new people and have fun.”
