Murder arrests following warrant at address in East Leicester

Twelve people have been arrested in connection with the suspected murder of a man in his 60s who has not been seen since April 2024.

Detectives from the force’s Murder Investigation Team carried out the arrests yesterday (Tuesday, 10 February), following what police described as a lengthy and complex investigation into the man’s disappearance. Officers say there has been no proof of life since he was last seen in April 2024.

Eight men aged 61, 43, 34, 33, 23, 21 and two aged 25 have been arrested on suspicion of murder. A ninth man, aged 50, has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. Three women, aged 34, 29 and 23, have also been arrested on suspicion of murder. All remain in police custody.

Police have confirmed the investigation is not related to counter terrorism and there is no evidence of any such link.

As part of ongoing enquiries, officers will conduct a thorough search of a property on Broad Avenue in East Leicester. The activity is expected to continue for days and potentially weeks, with specially trained search officers, crime scene investigators and heavy machinery deployed to the site. The searches will include excavation of the ground at the address.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Michael Chandler, of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, said the investigation remains active and complex.

“This is an ongoing lengthy and complex investigation and I do understand there will be a number of questions and concerns,” he said. “Please know that we have a dedicated team carrying out full enquiries as we continue to establish what has happened and we will keep you updated as we move forward.”

He added that there is nothing to suggest any wider risk to the community, with enquiries currently focused on the Broad Avenue address. Uniformed officers will remain at the scene, and residents are encouraged to raise any concerns with them directly.

Police activity is also taking place at two additional addresses in Evington, on Gwendolen Road and Falmouth Road.

Detectives are appealing for information and have urged the public not to share speculation or misinformation. Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 221 of 9 February 2026.
