A man has been arrested after police officers on routine patrol became suspicious of his behaviour while he sat in a car in Leicester.
Three officers from the South Leicester Neighbourhood Policing Area were driving along Lawford Road on Monday evening (16 March) when they noticed the vehicle and decided to investigate. Their instincts proved correct after a search of the car uncovered a quantity of drugs, along with mobile phones, a baseball bat and an extendable baton.

A 31-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A and Class B drugs, as well as possession of an offensive weapon.
As part of ongoing enquiries, officers later carried out a search at a nearby address in Leicester. During the search, they discovered a large quantity of drugs and cash. A firearm and ammunition were also recovered, although further testing is being carried out to determine whether the weapon is genuine.
A 28-year-old woman was arrested at the address on suspicion of possession with intent to supply drugs. Both suspects remain in police custody while investigations continue.
Detective Chief Inspector Kevin Brown, from the Central policing area, said the arrests highlighted proactive policing in action.
“This is a great example of policing. The officers were on routine patrol in the area and their suspicions stopped an offender in his tracks,” he said.
“An investigation is now underway and the two arrested will be questioned by detectives.
“We take drugs misuse and the criminality that comes alongside it extremely seriously. There was clear evidence in this case that the suspects were involved in the supply of drugs. A quantity of drugs and potentially dangerous weapon have been taken off the streets.”
Police are continuing their investigation and are urging anyone with concerns about drug misuse in their community to report it via the Leicestershire Police website.
