The University of Leicester and Leicester City Football Club are offering £5,000 scholarships to help young people from some of the region’s most deprived communities access higher education.
Five scholarships are available to eligible home applicants living in areas including parts of Coalville and Hinckley, as well as Leicester neighbourhoods such as New Parks and Beaumont Leys.

The scheme has been launched in partnership with club owners King Power, with the aim of removing financial barriers and widening access to university.
Leicester City chief executive Kevin Davies said the initiative would “make a real difference” by helping talented local students take the next step in their education.
Vice-chancellor Nishan Canagarajah added that improving social mobility remains a key priority, particularly in Leicester, and said the scholarships would help make higher education more accessible.
Successful applicants will receive £5,000 alongside opportunities to enhance their CVs through links with the football club, including community initiatives and events at the King Power Stadium.
The scheme builds on an ongoing partnership between the university and the club, which began with the Leicester City Football Club Children’s Health Partnership in 2018.
Applications close on Thursday 14 May, with successful students due to begin their studies in September. Applicants must live in qualifying areas, defined as IMD Q1 or Q2, which can be checked using a government postcode tool.
