Organisers are calling for more Leicestershire women to enter next year’s Miss Leicestershire contest – pointing out that it’s been over 20 years since Leicestershire won the Miss England crown.
Sally Kettle, now an international DJ and model, became the first and only Miss Leicestershire since 1990 to represent England on the Miss World stage in South Africa.
Aiming to replicate her success are three inspiring ladies from the county, who were chosen as the first three contenders during a recent audition at Stu Williamsons Photography studio in Kibworth.
They are: Leicester’s Khushi Baraiva, Loughborough student Tanya Sharma and aspiring Musical Theatre performer Grace Robinson, who is based in Leicester.
Grace Richardson, 18, is currently studying Musical theatre. She has been performing since she was just aged three and was complimented by the famous actor Hugh Jackman for being a good singer!
Khushi Baraiya, 20, is a student who’s currently studying public administration at De Montfort University. She is already a Miss England semi finalist having qualified earlier this year by competing in a Virtual heat on the Miss England App.
Finally Tanya Sharma, 22, is a Loughborough student who’s studying Business Analytics. She is also studying to be a Beekeeper!
Miss England Director Angie Beasley based in Leicester who recently appeared on ITVs Good Morning Britain and the Lorraine show after banning the swimwear round said “I think its so important to highlight the contestants achievements and aspirations in life as the contest ethos is Beauty with a Purpose. ”
The current Miss England is Jessica Gagen who recently graduated with a masters in Aerospace Engineering . Jessica will be representing England at the 71st Miss World in Mumbai India on December the 9th where she stands to win the coverted Beauty with a Purpose crown with her inspiring project promoting women in to STEM careers. Jessica has been visiting schools and colleges across the country giving talks to youngsters.
The next Miss Leicestershire final is being held on the 3rd February 2024 at Kibworth Grammar School Hall . The contestants will be raising funds for the Sue Young cancer Support charity in the lead up to the final as part of the contest.
