AN enterprising teenager says that the bullying and racism which he experienced at school, has given him the drive to set up his own clothing line.
Rishi Lad, who lives in Birstall founded his own fashion business ‘R&L Fashion’ last year when he was just 16-years-old.
Now 17, he points towards the bullying he experienced at school, as well as “institutionalised racism” as the things which drive his ambition and desire to make a name for himself in the fashion business.
“I had a tough time at school because I was different and suffered an element of segregation because of my race,” he told Pukaar News.
“It was a struggle to make friends and I was tormented about the way I looked and my clothes at the time as I didn’t have any designer clothing,” he added.
“Now I’m earning my own money and I love to wear designer clothes. I use that experience at school as fuel to show people what I can do, and hopefully this year my business will go from strength to strength.”
Describing himself as “determined, resilient and self-motivated,” Rishi believes that his negative experiences at school have made him a stronger and person.
“Everything happens for a reason,” is the philosophy he carries with him.
As well as setting up his own company, the tenacious teen is currently studying business, economics and accounting at Loughborough College and working at a local gym.
His clothing line features a range of clothing options for both men and women, including hoodies, shorts and sneakers, as well as accessories featuring the brand’s classy R&L logo.
“I like working at the gym, but I’ve always wanted to run my own business and be my own boss,” he revealed.
“I’m excited about the future. My motto is if you can believe it you can achieve it. No matter how tough life can get there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel,” is his message to the younger generation.
“Never give up on yourself.”
