Closure Order Issued for Property in Melton Mowbray Following Ongoing Anti-Social Behaviour

A property in Melton Mowbray has been slapped with a closure order following concerns raised by local residents about persistent noise, abusive and threatening behaviour, and drug misuse.

The order was secured bu Melton Borough Council after the tenant’s conduct failed to improve, despite repeated attempts by themselves and Leicestershire Police to offer support, guidance, and several warnings.

Closure Orders are designed to safeguard local communities by addressing anti-social behaviour occurring in or around a property. The order, granted by Leicester Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 29 November, prohibits anyone, including the tenant, from entering the property for a period of three months.

Councillor Sarah Cox, Chair of the Melton Safer Partnership, said: “Our community is at the heart of everything we do as a Council, and we want residents to feel safe and secure in their homes and neighbourhoods. Our Safer Communities, Tenancy Services, and Legal teams work relentlessly, alongside our partners, to improve the lives of our residents. Our first approach is always to support residents and tenants to resolve issues within the community. However, the behaviour in this case was unacceptable and failed to improve despite numerous warnings. Anti-social behaviour of this kind will not be tolerated in our borough—it was causing significant distress to local residents, who felt intimidated and unsafe in their own homes, so we had to take decisive action.”

Councillor Sharon Butcher, Vice-Chair of the Melton Safer Partnership, added: “This Closure Order sends a clear message that Melton Borough Council and Leicestershire Police will not tolerate drug misuse or anti-social behaviour in any form. We will continue to work with our partners and take legal action when necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of our communities.”
