Details of next month’s Leicester Pride event have been revealed, including headline performances by a West End superstar and Fatboy Slim’s DJ son.
Abbey Park will host this year’s event for the first time in its 15 year history on Saturday, September 2. The annual celebration of the city’s LGBTQ+ community is one of the biggest free pride events in the UK and will include a set by DJ Woody Cook in the Helsinki dance tent. West End star Ria Jones will perform on the main stage, as well as Typically Tina – a passionate and dynamic tribute to the late Tina Turner.
Other highlights of this year’s celebration include a community market, Billy Bates funfair and a grand firework finale at 9 pm.
“We’re incredibly excited to move to our new, bigger home at Abbey Park, something that has been in the planning for over 3 years now and we are extremely grateful for everyone’s support,” said Martyn Parker Chair and Director of Leicester Pride.
“Keeping pride free and accessible for everyone has always been at the heart of Leicester Pride so we’re hugely thankful to our sponsors who with us, continue to ensure that our wonderful city is able to come together and celebrate.”
“This is our 15th year and I’m so proud of all our team who work tirelessly throughout the year to bring this free event to enable our diverse communities to enjoy and celebrate such a great day,” added Craig Thorpe, Director of Leicester Pride said.
Leicester Pride will begin outside Leicester’s Curve theatre at 12pm. A bright and colourful parade is set to wind its way through the city to Abbey Park where a joyful programme of entertainment is set to delight crowds.
