The men had left the address before officers arrived – stealing cash, a mobile phone and designer clothing and shoes.

They were reported to have fled the scene in a dark coloured hatchback – heading in the direction of Gipsy Lane.

A short time later, Sgt Karl Burden from the local beat team, was parked in a police car nearby when he spotted a vehicle containing five occupants acting suspiciously close to Tailby Avenue.

Sgt Burden followed the vehicle as it started to gain speed in a bid to try and lose him. The vehicle was subsequently stopped in Swainson Road.

Five men, aged 37, 29, 21 and two aged 20, have been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and are currently in police custody. The car has been recovered by police.

No one was injured during the incident. A scene preservation remains in place at the address in Littlebury Place while officers carry out enquiries.

Detectives are asking for anyone who was in the area to contact police if they have any information and for residents and businesses to check CCTV or doorbell cameras for any footage that may be of use.
