Families enjoyed a day of swashbuckling fun yesterday, when the pirates came to Leicester’s Haymarket shopping centre.
The star of the day was a Captain Jack Sparrow lookalike who charmed shoppers, posed for selfies and gave youngsters a temporary tattoo.
Hundreds of children enjoyed getting creative at a free pop-up craft workshop on the day. They made parrots, pirates, hooks and seahorses at the workshop.
The crew of HMS Punafore sailed around Haymarket on their galleon, serenading shoppers with songs from Gilbert and Sullivan, Adam and the Ants and Duran Duran.
Captain Hook was there to meet youngsters and his beautiful mermaid friend.
Stiltwalkers Nautical Nancy – a beautiful ship’s figurehead – and her pirate friend Long Tall Sally were also a big hit with youngsters.
Haymarket centre manager Tony Spencer said: “It was fantastic to see everyone having fun with the pirates at Haymarket. The motley crew of characters were popular with shoppers and our retailers too.”
