Nick Rushton, leader of Leicestershire County Council has announced that he’s been diagnosed with cancer.
Cllr Rushton, who has served as the Leader of Leicestershire County Council since 2012 informed members at a meeting of the County Council today (Wednesday, July 10), that he has been diagnosed with cancer and will soon be undergoing treatment.
The 67-year-old who lives in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, will be stepping back from his county council role while he has treatment, the authority revealed in a statement.
Deborah Taylor, the Deputy Leader, is stepping up to be the Acting Leader in his absence.
Robert Ashman is joining the Cabinet to take on responsibilities for economic development.
