A series of road resurfacing projects will take place across Leicester this summer, timed to coincide with the school holidays when traffic levels are typically lower.
Leicester City Council has scheduled the works to minimise disruption, although some temporary road closures and clearly marked local diversions will be necessary while the repairs are underway.

The resurfacing programme begins on Saturday, 12 July, with work on Stoughton Drive, between Evington Lane and the Gartree roundabout. This stretch will be closed in both directions for eight days. The project, costing around £240,000, will resurface approximately 6,750 square metres of road.
Next, from Saturday, 19 July, resurfacing will take place on Avenue Road Extension, between its junctions with Welford Road and Queens Road in Clarendon Park. This phase is expected to last up to seven days.
From Saturday, 26 July, attention shifts to London Road, with resurfacing work between Mayfield Road and Evington Road scheduled for six days.
The Portwey and Tailby Avenue, between Hastings Road and Uppingham Road, will follow from Saturday, 2 August, with work also expected to take six days.
Additional resurfacing projects will take place throughout August on Wicklow Drive, King Richards Road, Vulcan Road, and Arran Road. All works are set to be completed before schools reopen on Tuesday, 26 August.
In total, the summer roadworks will cost just over £1 million and cover more than 26,000 square metres of resurfaced road surface.
Martin Fletcher, Director of City Highways at Leicester City Council, said: “With the volume of traffic using the city’s roads, repairs and resurfacing are essential to maintain their condition.
While temporary road closures and disruption are unfortunately unavoidable, we plan major works during the school holidays to reduce the impact. We’ll ensure that work is completed as quickly as possible to reopen roads on time.”
These works form part of the council’s annual highway capital maintenance programme, which will invest over £6 million this year in maintaining and improving Leicester’s road infrastructure.
