MAN IN CRITICAL CONDITION FOLLOWING ASSAULT IN LEICESTER

A man remains in hospital in a critical condition following a report of an assault in Leicester.

Police were called by East Midlands Ambulance Service at 4.23am this morning (Friday, August 19) to a report they were treating an injured man in High Street.

The man, who had sustained a head injury, has since been taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Initial reports from the scene was that the man had been assaulted and a 20-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault. He remains in police custody at this time.

A cordon remains in police in the area while further enquiries are being carried out at the scene.

The Leicestershire Police investigation remains at an early stage and anyone who may have witnessed what happened or the events leading up to it are asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident 83 of 19 August.
