Record Numbers Celebrate Lord Hanuman’s Birthday in Leicester

Thousands of people celebrated the birthday of Hindu god Lord Hanuman in Leicester at the weekend after eight days of festivities to mark the occasion.

The celebrations took place at the Shree Hanuman Temple on Melton Road, near to Rushey Fields with dignitaries joining devotees from across the region.

Blessed food was offered to the deity and then distributed among the devotees with regular recitals throughout the day.

Rajesh Patel, Secretary, Shree Hanuman Temple said: “The climax of the festivities was on Lord Hanuman’s birthday on Saturday when we welcomed a record number of devotees to our temple.

“As part of the birthday celebrations a special ‘Puja’ was performed including a wonderful display of traditional Indian sweets with devotees waiting patiently to offer prayers and seek blessings from the deity.

“To recognise Lord Hanuman’s unwavering devotion, strength and compassion, thousands came to take part in prayers, bhajan and joyful festivities on what is such a special occasion for the community.”

Hanuman is the symbol of strength and devotion and is an ardent devotee of Lord Rama but who also served Lord Krishna & Lord Swaminarayan.
