Shabana Azmi marking 50 years in worldwide cinema talks to Leicester Times

Shabana Azmi, the celebrated Indian actress, was honoured during the UK Asian Film Festival Leicester 2024.
The festival, now in its 26th year, celebrates stories that redefine power dynamics in life and relationships, showcasing journeys that drive societal transformation.
Shabana Azmi’s remarkable career spanning 50 years in cinema was commemorated during a special event at the Phoenix Leicester.
The festival screened two of her films: Mandi, a satirical comedy on politics and prostitution directed by Shyam Benegal, and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, a heartwarming Hindi drama.
The highlight was the “Shabana Azmi in Conversation” session, where she shared insights from her illustrious career and discussed her impact on Indian cinema.
The festival, which also runs in London and Oxford, continues to celebrate influential figures like Shabana Azmi, recognizing their contributions to South Asian cinema.
