Leicester has been buzzing for the past few months with a colourful herd of elephants taking over the city as part of the Stomp Round Leicester art trail.
After nearly ten weeks of delighting visitors, these vibrant sculptures are gathering for one last celebration at LOROS Hospice — before being auctioned off to their forever homes.

The Elephants’ Big Day Out event, happening on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th October, is your final chance to see all 120 elephant sculptures together in one place. This family-friendly weekend promises plenty of fun, including children’s activities, craft stalls, and a tempting selection of food and drink.
Then, on Wednesday 8th October, the excitement continues with the Elephant Auction at the King Power Stadium. Forty giant elephant-shaped works of art will go under the hammer, with all proceeds supporting LOROS Hospice.
Andrew Ward, Events Lead at LOROS, shared his enthusiasm: “The Elephants’ Big Day Out will be a fun-packed blast! With 120 elephants packed into LOROS, we might just be close to a world record!”
He added, “Shortly after, you’ll have the chance to bid on your favourite elephant. Whether you loved Twist and Stomp, the disco-ball mirrored sculpture, or were wowed by the gladiator-themed Legionary Maximus Elephantus, you could bring them home on 8th October — all while supporting LOROS!”
The charity hopes the auction will raise thousands to help sustain its vital services. Celebrating its 40th anniversary in September, LOROS has faced financial challenges leading to service cuts, meaning the milestone passed with quieter celebrations than hoped.
“LOROS has been a cornerstone of the community for 40 years, providing love, care, dignity, and comfort to families during their hardest times,” Andrew said. “It would be wonderful if the auction could serve as a late birthday present, helping us continue this essential work for decades to come.”
Those interested in bidding can register at loros.co.uk/auction. Tickets for the Elephants’ Big Day Out are priced at £5 per person or £16 for a family of four and are available online at loros.co.uk/Farewell.
Don’t miss this chance to celebrate art, community, and charity — and maybe take home a piece of Leicester’s vibrant elephant herd!
