The city was chosen for filming, due to its diverse nature.

At just 23, Khadeejah made history as the first frontline police officer to wear a hijab as part of her uniform. Although she is slight in stature she is described as someone who “takes no nonsense,” and is a black belt in karate.

Meanwhile Adam is credited with being the first officer of Somalian heritage to join Leicestershire Police.

He is currently only a few months into his Sergeant role and has a “different take on dealing with would-be criminals.”

The first episode of Fresh Cops, played on BBC Three for the first time on Sunday (September 25).

It features Khadeejah being called out to assist paramedics at an incident on Conduit Street in Highfields.

We also see her deal with her first encounter with a dead body, “not what normal 23-year-olds see on a daily,” she admits.

Throughout the series, the young officers open up about their hopes, fears and the camaraderies that gets them through the most difficult shifts.

“From sudden deaths and stop and searches to modern slavery cases and rural crimes, expect drama, hair raising moments and young officers working night and day to be the best at what they do,” said a BBC spokesman.

“With police recruitment actively targeting people under 25, this series unpacks the challenges young officers face and sheds a light on what it takes to be a success in the police force.”

Leicestershire Police said it was “fiercely proud” of the officers who feature in the new documentary.

“It captures the bravery, humility, compassion and honour of some of our newest recruits as they deal with everything the job has to throw at them,” said a spokesman.

“We’re fiercely proud of our officers.”
