Leicestershire’s Wistow Maze has been given an Olympic makeover this year, to celebrate the UK’s success in the games.
The popular attraction depicts a javelin thrower and is designed to honour Team GB heptathlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson.
Javelin is one of the seven events in the heptathlon, the sport which Johnson-Thompson has competed in at all four Olympic games since London 2012.
The 8 acre maze contains 12 quiz boards, hidden in three miles of pathways, that test visitors’ knowledge of Olympic host nations and their most famous landmarks.
“This year, the Wistow Maze really has the winning combination of fun and learning, as well as being a celebration of one of the UK’s biggest sporting competitions”, said Diana Brooks, owner of Wistow Maze.
At the end of the season, the maze is harvested for cattle fodder and then redesigned the following year using GPS satellite technology.
It will remain open daily until 1 September, then only on weekends until 15 September.
Johnson-Thompson, from Liverpool, ended her wait for an Olympic heptathlon medal after taking silver in a dramatic concluding 800m in Paris on Friday.
