FATAL COLLISION ON M1 BETWEEN MARKFIELD AND LEICESTER

A man has died after being struck by a heavy goods vehicle on the M1.

The incident happened at around 6.45pm yesterday (Tuesday, May 31), on a stretch of the southbound motorway between junctions 22 (Markfield) and 21a (Leicester).

Officers from Leicestershire Police attended but the man – who is in his 40s – was pronounced dead at the scene. The road was closed for several hours while further enquiries were undertaken.

No-one has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Detectives from the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are appealing for motorists with dashcams to come forward following the fatal collision.

Detective Constable Kasie Carter, from the SCIU, said: “While we have spoken to a number of people already, I would ask anyone who saw the collision occur to come forward.

“I’m particularly keen to speak to any motorists with a dashcam in their vehicle or anyone who saw the man prior to the collision. Any information you have, no matter how insignificant you think it is, could help.”
